Jute is obtained from a Jute plant (Corchorus olitorius), which is the most important natural plant product widely used for textile applications after cotton. Jute is a vegetable fiber used to make packaging materials, coarse fabrics, cloths, sacks, bags and for wrapping bales etc. It is well known as ‘Golden Fiber’, since it has golden and silky shine fiber. The fiber is extracted from the bark of the white jute and tossa jute plant. It has a very long history of traditional process of extracting the fiber from the plant biologically or through chemical retting process.
Jute fiber is Eco-friendly and a commercial product that is bio-degradable and recyclable.
Jute fiber is used as a standalone product and can also be blended with other materials in the production of commercial goods. It has a large usage in making ropes, sacks, weaving curtains, furniture covers, rugs, hessian cloths and linoleum. Also, the leafy part as well as the byproduct of a jute plant is edible and used in medicines, cosmetics and paints etc. The leaves of jute plant are being used in food recipes like soups, stews, tea and in other food cooking.
The industrial revolution throughout the world has brought a drastic change in the lifestyle of the population of the countries. There is an increase in the demand for the supply of materials for the production of both commercial and food products in the world. There have been a lot of breakthroughs in the science that lead to various inventions and introduction of different kinds of artificial materials, plastic being one of an example. Today, plastic is the only material that is being used in a very large scale in the world for producing many kinds of products used at household, offices, industries and many other places.
In the present times, there is a huge urge for global action to reduce the usage of artificial material such as plastic wherever and whenever possible. The circulation of the plastic materials in all the countries is as such that they are in ecological alarming pace. However, the traditional method of making some products with jute fiber is still in large scale. Also, it is highly recommended by many organizations working for our Environment safety, who have been promoting the usage of products made of jute and other natural materials.
There is a potential need of practicing the usage of products made of natural extracts and natural materials. Thus, we can bring down one of the major factor that is contributing to the damage to our eco-system and endangering species on our planet.
With a simple act or practice of replacing plastic material usage with natural, recyclable and bio-degradable materials at home and outdoors can bring back balance in the environment and save our endangered planet.
